This was an "Iron Chef" party! We patterned it after the TV cooking competition show, "Iron Chef". It has been a favourite for years.
So, my daughter decide that's what she wanted to do for her party! The cake was a chef's hat!
3 layers of cake and then a rice crispy top. One guest couldn't have cake, so we have done rice crispy for a lot of the parties.
NOTE: the rice crispy started to get heavy after a while, so the base should have been rice crispy too;)
The cooking challenge comes from having to use a "secret" ingredient in each dish you make....our secret ingredient was OLIVES. Their challenge was to create a pizza and a salad using olives.
Each guest got a chefs hat. They were super simple to make. We rolled poster board and hot glued it to make a tube. then we hot glued
gift wrapping tissue paper into it.
We fluffed it up and they were done.
This party required A LOT of ingredients, so it end up being a more costly party.
The kids split into teams, to make it a competition. They had to work together to create each dish.
While the food was baking, we played a trivia game about cooking terms. Fun! Questions like, "what is fondue or what is fondant or what does it mean to saute".
The kids then had to "plate" their food. Presentation was part of the judging. They made one plate of pizza and one plate of salad for each judge.
The judges then tasted the food. They were judged on TASTE and PRESENTATION.
Then they announced a winning team. The kids really had a great time!
